and they're right.

Eli has felt his own kind of societal disenfranchisement, disillusion with his own family, frustration over lack of knowledge and agency. He understands power, he understands filling shoes he doesn't fully like.

But Eli's always had a Shane's perspective. Thinking of the world as a whole, what's best for everyone. He was allowed, encouraged, to listen to his inner morality. That's Shane's privilege; they are well-known and well-resourced. Eli's been able to tap into societal and even political power his entire time down in Slugterra. THAT'S where Eli differs from both Twist and Tad - these two had only their fathers and their legacy. They did not have a worldly, holistic upbringing, so their ideologies (and young emotions, esp. for Tad) are as narrow-focused as their lives had encouraged from them. I have no doubt these two can be good, they are good sometimes. But they've been taught to be self-empowered, to see the injustice lying in their dad's not being there to make their lives easier, to place their survival and peace of mind respectively above the good of the world, of the world that let them down (including the Shanes). They constantly tap into the angered feeling Eli's been taught to suppress, and that's why Eli's so perplexed why they would turn bad - he doesn't know what its like to be a little fish, having been growing to be the big one his whole life. AND its why these two are infuriated w the Shane after their respective conversations: Eli bows to the world's politics that caused their families' ruin, and doesn't even recognize it, or worse - he does and it is not the priority. He "lost his dad too", but in their perspective, seems to care far less about it. He took out Blakk, but won't use the same energy to right Will Shane's actions in the past? Twist knows nothing about the Burning World - he sees a kid who is side-by-side with his Dad, who refuses to see the man he was really raised by (and is twist really proved that wrong, after Eli learns of Will's bad actions later on?). Tad saw Eli not searching for his father, despite them KNOWING hes alive. And that angers them, deeply, which churns right in with their already-there dislike towards the Shanes interpersonally.

eli is good; when he sees evil, he takes it out. He really is trying his best, and even Twist and Tad see minimally that this inaction stems from trauma moreso than any real political stance.

Once it has to do with his dad, eli...sorta becomes a bit of a centrist, especially to these two. he doesn't know how to toe that line; how to save his dad, to love his dad, but move on from his actions, to right the Shane's wrongs. so the Shane stops gangs and individuals - even corporations! - but he wont do anything that systematically helps the caverns.

thats my reading of ItS and A New Kid pt 1+2 that makes sense to me.

How rich is the Shane Gang?

In the early episodes it's implied they don't have much, and actively save up to buy equipment.

Like Pronto admitted to 'borrowing' money from the others in the Club Slug episode, and Eli expressed his hesitance in trading slugs for equipment when they were short of money.

And then, like I wana say about six to seven months later when the whole thing with Dana stealing from Blakk and the Gentleman being set after her, Eli offers the Gentleman dubbled what Blakk payed for their plan to fake Dana's work.

Double What Dr. Blakk, the owner of a successful business and Railway that makes presumably millions not including the endorsements of Slugterras richest, was willing to pay.

Because the show takes place in a years time, Eli basically went from a broke teen hero, to rich enough to pay off one of the top assassins in the Caverns, in like 12 months.

Keep in mind, while Eli knows there are stashes hidden all around Slugterra filled with things he might need one day(not necessarily money) he has no idea where like 98% of them are.

And while sure, there is clearly stuff the gang gets up to in their off time, and going on adventures to find these Shane Cashes is plausible, how much are we willing to bet they found a cash with a comical amount of money?

Like I have no problem believing the gang have not only their personal savings, but a group fund for communal stuff/supplies. Or that, ever now and then, they get paid for some of the missions they do.

But it's been like, at least six months or so leading up the whole thing with the Gentleman, and unless Blakk was paying him the flattest of fees, how is it possible for Eli to pay double.

I would imagine that an assassin's fees aren't cheap either.

All I'm saying is that someone on the team won the lottery, got lucky chash hunting for Shane deposits, or something because dear god I have questions about their financial situation.

And no, Pronto technically being a King don't mean shit, it's been made pretty clear, for all his ego, Pronto isn't 100% cool with being King, and he is not smart with his money seeing as how he falls for scams.

Edit Nov/20/24: my brain is running on fumes- the 'double the pay' line is form a different ep but my bullshit about Eli being able to double any sort of pay at all still stands.

cross-examining this totally accurate to canon data charts will lead us to some marvelous conclusions

And please note that eli's mom, burpy, and the goon are not factored into the data, simply because we do not have enough data to place them anywhere concretely.

Also note that I tried to stick to canon - we all have our own theories about those three, and maybe different opinions of the vibes of those depicted above, but I attempted to keep all HC's out of the charts. I like to headcanon that Dr Blakk was ALMOST chosen as the cavern protector teeehe and was consider has one anyway (idfk how his ass caught burpy) :D

And from my nerd-ass brain or hc, infurnus are meant to be gifted to the people who are the chosen one's to be caverns protectors basically like, junjie and yang (not much info from how yang got joo-joo) and considering that Blakk was almost the cavern protector, I soppuse burpy didn't choose him has one, since his greed and selfishness

So, like, can we talk about the fact that Blakk had Burpie? Cus like we see blakk had burpie, right? And then the goon doc (I CAN NOT take this name seriously chat) says that infurnus' go with the protector of the cavern, and I wanna know why he's with blakk. Like there's no way blakk was actually considered the protecter of the cavern.

Going back to that one post I made about Eli

I mentioned at the end that I hc Eli liked to play Pikmin, and i think he kinda used it as a way to prep himself for having Slugs, and how to use them.

But, he became unreasonably attached to the little Pikmin creatures, and whenever one died or he accidentally left one behind, he was devastated.

Like no joke, he would pause the game, put down his controller, and just mourn the loss of his little, very much so not real, Pikmin.

And it translated, creepily well to Slug Slinging. Like picking your battles, improvising with what's on hand, strength in numbers, and caring for your Pikmin/Slugs.

But Eli Shane is chronically 'stupid' and makes mistakes like everyone else.

And just like with his Pikmin, he feels so guilty whenever something goes wrong.

Slugterra's Cavern Systems

It will always baffle me when people say that the 99 Caverns are the 'central caverns' with there being the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western cavern systems or that the 99 Caverns means there's 99 Infurnus slugs....

There's clear evidence in the series to support there actually being SIX Slugterra cavern systems and that the 99 Caverns is not the 'central caverns'.

Let's address the location of the 99 Caverns. We know that the 99 Caverns is underneath a place that commonly uses the imperil system of measurement (ie inches, feet, yards etc). And given it snows during Christmas, we can assume the country/continent over the top of the 99 Caverns is the USA/North America.

As for the count of the potential cavern systems, we go to Gateway Cavern and the Gateway Portal. The portal is made up of two rings; the outer which indicates which cavern system we're in (picture below is of the 99 Caverns symbol)

and the inner turn-able ring that shows six different symbols. (the sixth is obscured by the steps in front of it) Said ring will show which cavern system you're going to.

I think people forget to count the sixth symbol on the inner ring since they only see five. Or that they count one of the six as the Deep Caverns whilst the sun represents the Burning World/Surface

We know that there's one for the Eastern Caverns (below)

And that the sun symbol is associated with the Dark Bane or perhaps was meant to be a quick way back to the surface,

As for the other four; we have zero idea of which caverns they lead to

Personal headcanons of mine set them as the Southern, Pacific, European and Southwestern Caverns respectfully.

But now lets look at why the 99 Caverns is NOT the central caverns. Just because the 99 Caverns is canonically the largest and main cavern system we've seen/been in for the series doesn't mean it sits as the middle. Bullseye Cavern is the middle of the 99 Caverns, what the residents of that cavern system believed to be the center of Slugterra since they did not know of the other systems TILL the Goon and co attacked.

With the 99 Caverns under America, why would the Eastern Caverns still be referred as the Eastern Caverns when the closest path to them is from the west? Well that comes back down into world geography history! America is referred to as the West and Asia is referred to the East due to England and the UK being the center of attention. So by 'technicalities' under the UK's own classifications, they'd be the central caverns. Though, I don't think there should be 'central caverns', rather Western (99/under North America), Eastern (under Asia), Northern (European/under Europe), Southeastern (Pacific/under Australia & the surrounding islands)), Southern (under Africa) and Southwestern (under South America)

Edit: Completely forgot to mention the Infurnus stuff- so quickly adding that!

There is only 2 known Infurnus slugs; Burpy and Joo-Joo. The idea of a Infurnus being the "defender's slug" of the cavern system. It is only true to Eastern Caverns with Joo-Joo being a slug held in Junjie's family for 2000 years.

There has to be at least a few more Infurnus slugs about, but very much limited in rarity (ie, almost One of a Kind per system)
